Interest Groups

Interest Groups are gatherings of club members who meet regularly (usually) in each others' homes to pursue a common interest or try something new and to make lasting friendships. The only requirement for joining an Interest Group is membership in CFUW Kitchener-Waterloo. The choices and meeting times are varied as listed below:

Arts I
  • 4th Monday
  • This group studies topics in the visual arts and individual members take turns researching and presenting talks on those topics. Currently, this group is studying the early nineteenth century.
Bridge and Brunch
  • 2nd Sunday
Daytime Social Bridge
  • As arranged
Duplicate Bridge
  • 2nd and 4th Tuesdays
  • Note: a knowledge of duplicate bridge is useful. Substitutes welcome.
Green Thumbs Gardening Club
  • 1st Tuesday, 1:30 - 3:30 pm.
  • Usually meets in members' homes with discussions of gardening topics. Outings may also be arranged.

  • 1st Thursday
"Monday Night" Book Group
  • 1st Wednesday
  • This is a group of older club members whose main focus is on books and individual member discussion.
Out to Lunch

  • A small group of members who enjoy leisurely discussion over lunch. New members welcome.
Out to Lunch Too

Potpourri
  • 3rd Wednesday at 1:15 pm.
  • Another group of individual presentations. Membership open.

Evening

Meetings in members' homes usually begin at 7:30 pm.

Antiques

  • 1st Thursday
  • Decorative arts and antiques discussed. Member presentations and field trips.
Arts II
  • 2nd Monday
  • Members research, present and discuss topics in the visual and performing arts. Currently the group is discussing native Canadian art and artefacts.
    New members welcome.
Bonnes Boissons

Book Exchange
  • Two meetings, September & May
  • Exchange of recently published books.

These three bridge groups meet in members' homes. Two or three tables, lots of chatter. Spares or regulars welcome.

Contemporary Books Discussion A

  • 4th Monday
  • Participants read a contemporary fiction or non-fiction book a month and discuss these at the monthly meetings.

Fun and Gains Investment Group
  • 4th Wednesday
  • The group studies the financial world and the impact on investments.
  • Limit on number of participants

Gourmet food, meals and discussions abound in all five groups. Each group sets a limit to number of participants.

Movie Mavens
  • Communicating mainly by email, members arrange groups to view films at local cinemas. Several outings take place each month.
New Members Group

Theatre
  • One planning meeting, usually mid-May
  • The Theatre Group plans six outings a year to theatrical performances, many out-of-town. Small sub-groups of four or five members plan the outings.

  • Conversation regarding travel in the comfort of members' homes: share your journeys.

Wine Tasting
  • 3rd Thursday
Wine Tasting II

Wine Tasting III
  • 2nd Tuesday

Members develop an appreciation for and knowledge of wine through tastings and field trips. Membership is limited due to space and equipment.

Women's Studies

  • Discusses women's roles and contributions. New members welcome.
